Railroads - Schuylkill County is served by the Reading and Northern Railroad, headquartered in Port Clinton. This 315 mile regional railroad serves eight counties in the state and handles over 23,000 carloads of freight a year. The Reading and Northern owns a fleet of nearly 800 freight cars and 22 modern locomotives. The railroad provides daily service on 133 miles of track in Schuylkill County and interchanges to both Norfolk Southern Railroad and Canadian Pacific Railroad to connect Schuylkill County to the entire international transportation market. Rail service by Reading and Northern is available to several industrial development sites in Schuylkill County.
Airports/Air Services - The Schuylkill County Airport, located outside of Minersville, has a 4,600-foot paved runway capable of handling medium transport, passenger and small jet aircraft. The airport is operated by the Schuylkill County Airport Authority. Air freight and commercial air services are available within 60 minutes in Allentown, Harrisburg, Avoca, and Reading. The Philadelphia International Airport is a 2.5 our drive over our Interstate Highways and Turnpike System.
Package Delivery - In addition to post offices within the communities, Schuylkill County is served by all of the major package handlers. United Parcel Service has distribution terminals near Pottsville and Tamaqua.
