The Evans Network of Companies

Footprint In Our Region

Founded in 1939 by Albert L. Evans, Sr. the company started with two trucks handling LTL freight in the local Pottsville area. The company continued to grow in the regional LTL market and gradually expand operations to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Maryland. In 1973, the company established Intermodal services to serve Steamship lines in the port of Philadelphia. This Intermodal operation now serves steamship lines and railroads in every major port on the east coast as well as a number of inland ports. In 1989, the company sold its LTL operations and continued expansion in the Intermodal and truckload markets.

In 2008, Nena Mazzei-Schmidt joined with Mr. Bert Evans to lay the groundwork for the Walk In Art Center, which was to occupy the remaining 67,000 square feet of the building. 501 (C)(3) Status was obtained in 2011 for the Walk In Art Center and at this time planning for the 3rd floor artist studios began. Today, The Walk In Art Center (WIAC) is a 501 (C)(3) non-profit organization founded in the belief that art and culture can positively affect the lives of all. Located in rural Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, the WIAC has 14 artists working on-site, classrooms, exhibit space, and their event rental area, The Gallery, a retrofitted industrial space perfect for your special occasion.

The Walk in Art Center’s mission is to inspire, equip and celebrate the cultural and creative talent of Schuylkill County.
