In 1989, Mr. Bert Evans of Evans Transportation bought the Walkin Shoe Company to turn it into the new corporate headquarters. In 2008, Nena Mazzei-Schmidt joined with Mr. Bert Evans to lay the groundwork for the Walk In Art Center, which was to occupy the remaining 67,000 square feet of the building. 501 (C)(3) Status was obtained in 2011 for the Walk In Art Center and at this time planning for the 3rd floor artist studios began. Today, The Walk In Art Center (WIAC) is a 501 (C)(3) non-profit organization founded in the belief that art and culture can positively affect the lives of all. Located in rural Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, the WIAC has 14 artists working on-site, classrooms, exhibit space, and their event rental area, The Gallery, a retrofitted industrial space perfect for your special occasion.
The Walk in Art Center’s mission is to inspire, equip and celebrate the cultural and creative talent of Schuylkill County.
