The U.S. Chamber is opposed to the legislation for three main reasons:
• The book minimum tax proposal
• The carried-interest tax proposal
• The drug price control proposal

Today, the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce joined the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry in applauding the General Assembly, Senator David Argall, Pennsylvania’s 29th District; State Representative Jerry Knowles, Pennsylvania’s 124th Legislative District; State Representative Joe Kerwin, Pennsylvania’s 125th Legislative District; State Representative Tim Twardzik, Pennsylvania’s 123rd Legislative District, and Governor Tom Wolf for passage of significant reforms to the Commonwealth’s tax structure, including a reduction to the state’s uncompetitive Corporate Net Income Tax rate and tax relief for small businesses.

Section 132(a) of the IRS code allows employees to pay for their qualified commuting costs (up to specified limits) with pre-tax dollars. The program was created to encourage commuting in a way that reduces road congestion and improves air quality so qualified expenses include transit passes, vanpooling, bicycling expenses and work-related commuter parking, but excludes the cost of fuel to drive a personal car to work.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation today announced Kelly Preneta, finance and administrative director of the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce graduated from its premier business leadership program. The Business Leads Fellowship Program trains and equips leaders from state and local chambers of commerce, economic development agencies, and statewide trade associations with resources, access to experts, and a network of peers to build their capacity to address the most pressing education and workforce challenges.

The Schuylkill Technology Center North Campus hosted a graduation Ceremony for the students completing the Practical Nursing Program, an 18 month, part-time program for adult students. During the ceremony, 18 students, who are now eligible to sit for the NCLEX Examination which enables them to become licensed practical nurses, were awarded degrees and awards.

The community came to celebrate the dedication of the new Schuylkill Haven Main St clock on April 23rd. The clock is located near the post office and the Reading & Northern Railroad Station, in dedication to the Schuylkill Haven Community. Businesses and residents have come together to contribute to the clock as a replacement to the Zwerling landmark. The former clock which graced this space for almost 30 years was not repairable.
