Mar Lin, PA - Schuylkill Technology Center joined in celebration of the 10th annual National Apprenticeship Week, which ran November 17 – 23, 2024. During this weeklong event, STC released a daily spotlight on the students enrolled in the STC Pre-Apprenticeship Program coordinated in partnership with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 743 (IBEW). National Apprenticeship Week is a collective campaign that highlights the 660,00 active apprentices. There has been a 31% increase in the number of Registered Apprentices programs nationwide.
The theme for 2024 National Apprenticeship Week was “10 Years of Engagement, Expansion and Innovation,” reflecting the transformative power of Registered Apprenticeship and its ability to bring together key national, regional, state and local stakeholders from across the country to find workforce solutions and create essential on-ramps for career seekers.
The STC Pre-Apprenticeship Program held in coordination with the IBEW is an afterschool program for 12th grade high school students within Schuylkill County interested in becoming Journeymen Electricians upon graduation from high school. The program is funded by a Schools-to-Work grant, which supports workforce development programs, in partnership with schools, that establish or enhance employment and training pathways for Pennsylvania students. Upon completion of the apprenticeship program, graduates will be granted an interview with the IBEW Local 743. If accepted into the union, program participants will be exempt from the first year of the five-year journeyman apprenticeship program.
STC is currently accepting applications for the 2025/2026 School Year. Interested applicants should contact hessd@stcenters.org.
