The 2024 Northeast PA Manufacturers & Employers Council Regional Spelling Bee coordinated by Schuylkill Technology Center is scheduled to take place in the auditorium at DHH Lengel Middle School located 1541 Laurel Blvd, Pottsville, PA 17901 on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 10:00am.   This event will include thirty-nine spellers and twenty alternates representing the twelve Schuylkill County Public School Districts as well as the non- public institutions.  

Mr. Charles Underwood will serve as the pronouncer for the regional event, while Dr. Nikki Andel of Penn State University, Cynthia Mensch of Alvernia University and Devina Singh, former National Spelling Bee Competitor will serve as Judges.  Ashley Hess of Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 will serve as Recordkeeper, with Karen Durkin serving as Appeals Judge and Shannon Brennan of Schuylkill Technology Center as Emcee.  

The future of the Regional Spelling Bee was in jeopardy when long-time sponsor, the Republican Herald Newspaper, announced that it would no longer be able to sponsor and coordinate the event.   “Losing the Regional Bee would have been a tremendous loss for Schuylkill County and so I’m thankful that Northeast PA Manufacturers & Employers Council stepped up to sponsor the event,” said Shannon Brennan, Director of STC.  The Northeast PA Manufacturers & Employers Council, which operates the Your Employability Skills (YES) Program, has demonstrated a strong commitment to the youth of this community and sponsoring “the Bee” aligned with that mission, said Courtney L. The winner of this regional competition will compete I the Scripps National Spelling Bee Scheduled to take place at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center during the week of May 26-31, 2024
