Schuylkill Technology Center was awarded an equipment grant from the American Welding Society valued at $25,000 for the purchase of a MIG Welder to be utilized in the Secondary and Adult Welding classes at the South Campus of Schuylkill Technology Center. “The Welding Program will benefit greatly from the American Welding Society’s Welding Work Force Grant as we bolster our aging fleet of existing equipment,” said Welding Instructor, Doug Del Conte. STC welding students will use the new equipment to strengthen their capabilities in the areas of pulse Gas Metal Arc Welding, Aluminum Gas Metal Arc Welding and GTAW.
According to Director of CTE, Shannon Brennan, “this competitive grant award is a tremendous asset to Schuylkill Technology Center, which typically trains 48 secondary and 12 adult students each year. This grant provides STC students with the opportunity to utilize industry-grade equipment. Upon completion of the STC Welding Program, students sit for the AWS D1.1 Structural Steel Certification, which is valued by employees and validates the quality of the educational training as they enter the workforce.
