Workforce development efforts in Schuylkill County are
managed by the Schuylkill Workforce Partnership, comprised of seven
businesses and organizations: Northeast PA Manufacturers and Employers
Association; Pennsylvania CareerLink; PPL; Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce;
Schuylkill County Commissioners; Schuylkill Economic Development Corporation
(SEDCO), and Schuylkill Intermediate Unit No. 29.
The
Partnership manages two unique programs that work hand in hand to meet
the needs of employers. Both the Pennsylvania Business Retention and
Expansion Program (BREP) and the Y.E.S. (Your Employability Skills)
Certificate Program provide employers with the tools they need to remain
competitive in an ever-changing business climate:
Pennsylvania Business Retention
and Expansion Program
The mission of this state initiative is to preserve jobs and create
new opportunities while providing the opportunity for Schuylkill County
business leaders to share their thoughts, concerns and ideas for the
future of our business community. The program is comprised of a team
of interviewers who are responsible for conducting face to face interviews
with over 80 businesses in the county each year. The goal of the program
is to meet the needs of the business community, create/retain jobs and
to promote northeastern Pennsylvania.
Y.E.S. (Your Employability Skills)
Certificate Program
The Y.E.S. Certificate Program is targeted at high school seniors.
The program helps students develop the fundamental skills employers
require to maintain a well-trained workforce. It addresses key employability
issues and offers participants a pathway to a secure and rewarding future.
Students participate in the 120-hour curriculum and learn a number of
skills that are applicable in the "real world".
The primary purpose and goals of the Partnership are as
follows:
- To assist employers in meeting their present and future
workforce needs.
- To strengthen the bond between Schuylkill County's
economic development and employment and training programs by continual
communication and coordination between the public and private sectors.
- To provide workforce development and career awareness
linkages to the county schools, primarily through the Y.E.S.
Certificate Program.
- To advance the economic well-being of the region by
developing and maintaining a quality workforce.
Workforce development is an ongoing process in Schuylkill
County, and the Partnership will constantly strive to help enhance the
quality of the workforce and local job market as new opportunities arise.
