2003 Class Project
Planting Seeds for
Beautification and Pride!
The class of 2003 has two projects that go hand-in-hand
with their pride in Schuylkill County. "Y Schuylkill?" looks
at Schuylkill County through pictures, and the "Gateway Beautification
Project" entails planting wildflowers along major roads in the
county.
"Y Schuylkill?" is chaired by class member Edward
Redding and consists of more than 200 photos taken by class members
depicting myriad values found in Schuylkill County to promote awareness
and pride among its residents. The photos are shown in a seven-minute
Flash Media presentation, which is available as a CD that can be shown
in schools, at group presentations and used by the Schuylkill County
Visitors Bureau. If you would like to acquire a "Y Schuylkill"
CD, please contact Lori
Kane.
The Schuylkill Leadership "Gateway
Beautification Project", chaired by class member Debra Herring,
strives to improve the aesthetic qualities of the major gateways into
the county. This is accomplished by designing, implementing and further
fostering the creation of beautiful areas of wildflowers along major
roads. The pilot site will be space near the Mount Carbon jug-handle
on Route 61. The class will create a detailed program guide so that
other county organizations can easily replicate the project and expand
to other sites. Members will promote the project throughout the year
to organizations that may be interested in making a small roadside area
in their community more beautiful with lovely wildflowers, making the
overall appearance of Schuylkill County more welcoming and attractive.
