Committees
Awards Committee
The Awards Committee was established to take on the duties of making the final choices among awardees from a list of potential candidates or nominees. The Committee must first understand the intention of each individual recognition process and assure the goals of those processes are maintained by the Committee. The Committee then goes about establishing of the “winner” using processes which eliminate, as much as possible, any awareness of the identities of the nominees until a winner can be determined. Only then is the identity of the victor is shared.
Examples of the Committee's work include the naming of the Business Woman, Business Man, Organization and Entrepreneur of the Year as well as choosing the winners of the annual Essay Contest.
Education Committee
The goal of the Education Committee is to provide relevant workshops and seminars related to topics of interest as identified by members of the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce. It is our intention to spearhead efforts for professional development and to participate fully in on-going workforce development efforts.
The Education Committee works in partnership with our county educational providers, including Alvernia University - Schuylkill Center, Lehigh Carbon Community College, McCann School of Business & Technology, Penn State Schuylkill and the Schuylkill Community Education Council www.schuylkilleducation.org as well as the Schuylkill Technology Centers and the local school districts.
Government Affairs Committee
The Government Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Commerce informs, educates and disseminates relevant information on legislative issues that affect Chamber members and the business community. The committee surveys the membership to determine the most pressing legislative issues affecting the membership and prioritizes their issues of concern. We work with other committees that specifically address any issues of concern (such as the Transportation Committee) to accomplish our goals.
The committee also coordinates the Legislative Breakfasts and the "Coffee with the Candidates" programs. The committee meets on the first Thursday of each month at a lunch meeting.
For a listing of all of the government officials, please see our Legislative Directory.
Member Services
The Member Services Committee is a committee that meets monthly to discuss and enhance new member and existing member benefits. This group assists in adding value to the membership and helps develop new programs. The Member-to-Member Discount Program which offers discounts from Chamber companies to other Chamber companies and their employees is an example of an initiative taken by the member services committee. Chamber Ambassadors are member representatives that welcome new members to the Chamber and help the new members become acquainted with fellow Chamber members and events.
Special Events Committees
The Special Events Committee was formed to help with preparation and planning for the Schuylkill Chamber events. Committee members are tasked with coming up with new and innovative themes for events as well as using their personal contacts to assure that the event will be a success.
Committee members are also used as a sounding board in the concept stage for new events, as well as a source or new and exciting events for the future.
Special Committees are formed as events are conceived and planned. An example of a special planning committee would be for the Annual Golf Outing.
Transportation Committee
The Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee works in partnership with State, County and Local entities that are affected by mobility within and through Schuylkill County. This mobility includes highway and transit system operations that service all residents residing within our County.
With a focus on projects identified from a project needs lists developed by the Schuylkill County Office of Planning & Zoning, priorities are recommended and become available as State funding permits. Our Federal Congressman, Senate and House of Representatives actively engage in carrying our needs to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, District 5-0 in Allentown.
