Building Bridges
The state of Pennsylvania recently introduced the Academic Standards for Career Education and Work. The Career Education and Work Standards include:
- Career Awareness and Preparation
- Career Acquisition (Getting a Job)
- Career Retention and Advancement
- Entrepreneurship
Pennsylvania’s economic future depends on having a well-educated and skilled workforce. No student should leave secondary education without a solid foundation in Career Education and Work. The Schuylkill Chamber Foundation wants to assist our county schools in reaching these goals through our Building Bridges program.
The Building Bridges Program includes a number of components for schools to take advantage of, including:
- Job Shadowing - Gives students the opportunity to learn one on one about a particular career. Students shadow an adult for the day to observe what their career is all about, while experiencing a typical work day.
- Classroom Speaking - Brings a business leader into the classroom to educate the class about their career and the education and training that they had to get them to where they are today.
- Getting to Know - Schuylkill - Linking our teachers to the employers of the county to bring education into the work environment while showing our teachers what industry exists in Schuylkill County. Includes tours of industry in the county to show school officials the technology that exists in the workplaces across the county.
